LBNL Bldg 62

Funded by ARRA for the expansion of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory’s Battery Research Program. Battery research is an increasing focus at LBNL as ,

‘Batteries are an enabling technology that can reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and allow for significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.’

The renovation of 4500 sq ft of an aging laboratory dedicated to battery and energy storage, included upgrades to power, clean rooms, HEPA filtration, fume hoods, hazardous materials handling and storage. Secondarily, independent lab rooms were created to support a suite of research projects. Code compliance was addressed through the changes to the central utility core for fire and life safety. The main aesthetic drive was for optimal technical function through clean sterile design.
